Notes

Preparations for Public Domain Celebration

  • Scheduled for January 31, 12:00-4:00 pm

  • Maria and Annie have begun to brainstorm ideas for the event: see notes on Google Drive

  • Thinking that it should be an informal drop-in session, with refreshments/snacks

    • Opportunity to engage undergraduate students

  • Sara says that we would need to promote with faculty/classes. We can market it like any other program.

  • Do we want to target our outreach for this?

    • Tyler/Boyer

    • CLA (History/Literature)

    • Jan Fernback, “Law and Ethics of Digital Media” class (Klein)

  • Which ideas should be focus on?

    • 1920s themed party seems like fun - Are there 1920’s texts or classes that we can focus on?

    • Different tables with different activities

    • Different performances/events each hour: Movie screening, Student musical performance

  • We should finalize our plan by early January.

    • Rachel Cox can also start working on design before then.

  • @Annie Johnson (Unlicensed) will reach out to Brian Boling regarding film component (possibly have silent film playing in the background) and might ask Anne Harlow about special “Beyond the Notes” performance with public domain music

  • Matt Shoemaker maybe did Duchamp exhibit with Philly Museum of Art.@Kristina De Voe (Unlicensed) will contact him about this to see if there is a possible tie-in for the event.

  • PA Digital is also doing a webinar about images coming into the public domain.@Sara Curnow Wilson (Unlicensed) will see if we can display images (either on walls or some other way) for the session.

  • Is it worth it to contact other faculty/do more outreach to specific classes

    • @Annie Johnson (Unlicensed) will reach out to Public History contacts so that they know about the event.

    • @Emily Toner will contact Jill to identify if there are any art history courses or other Tyler classes that could be considered.

  • @Stephanie Roth (Unlicensed) will also see if there are any additional connection to HSL.

  • Sara has leftover supplies (paint, sharpers) from Street Art event and can purchase new supplies if needed. John Pyle should also be informed at some point.

Learning Outcomes & Rubric for Teaching

  • For the second half hour, we worked on completing rough draft of learning outcomes – see document on Google Drive.

  • We recognized that Research as Inquiry and Searching as Strategic Exploration aren’t easily adapted to scholarly communication learning outcomes.

  • SCSST team will read through learning outcomes document and suggest edits/finalize changes by next Monday Dec 3, 2018 .

  • We also need discuss next steps, including how we are going to use these learning outcomes and share them with TUL subject librarians.
