Discussion items

1. Schol Comm Skills for Liaison Librarians: Next Steps
  • Now have 21 responses, which is great. But no clear majority - a lot of different areas that people want to focus on (basically everything). So how should we do this?
  • Discussed options for different sorts of training, workshops, discussions, webinars, etc.
  • We have done a lot of related workshops and programs in the past, so there is definitely content we can draw from. Also good to partner with others on staff workshops if possible (i.e. Caitlin for content on "Role of Undergraduates" and Brian B. for content on copyright).
  • Also want to think about opportunities to get librarians involved in the workshops and events (tabling, etc.) that we'll be offering throughout the year.
  • Plan is to start with a workshop on Scholarly Profiles and Research Impact (which had the highest amount of interest) on August 21 at 11:00 in the Lecture Hall.
  • We'll begin to develop a list for each skill area of recorded webinars and other materials (articles, books, etc.) that can be used for staff training. Copyright in particular is well covered in many webinars.
  • Kristina will hopefully get content for training others on open education and textbook affordability as our campus partner for a new PA grant-funded initative.
  • Stephanie is already offering training on systematic reviews, covering an aspect of the Research Support area.
  • We decided to share our list of Schol Comm workshops and events for 2018-2019 with tentative dates with all liaisons via the LRS listserv in order to seek volunteers to lead or assist with some programs.
2. Investment in Open Project check-in
  • Checked in with everyone on each section.
  • Rough draft of each section due on August 10th.
  • Goal completion date for the full report is August 31st.
  • Reviewed user communities section and thought more about use cases for the repository in IR Policies and Procedures doc.
  • Added content regarding graduate student and undergraduate student submissions. For undergraduates, will accept any research output that has received an award or recognition outside the classroom.
  • Need to think about how to include post doc researchers and any other research center on campus in the IR

Action items

  • Annie Johnson (Unlicensed) will start a document where we can all begin listing webinars and other learning materials related to each schol comm skill area
  • Plan our first staff workshop on Scholarly Profiles & Research Impact (Including Elements) on August 21 at 11:00
  • Draft email with tentative schedule of schol comm events for the year to all liaisons seeking volunteers to lead or help with workshops and programming tied to their skill area.
