Discussion Items

  • Research impact/faculty profiles workshop for librarians in August
    • RAL inquired who will be offering this workshop. KD agreed to offer it; RA agreed to assist with any Elements-related content. Recording the workshop was also suggested for those who are unable to attend.
    • KD reserved the lecture hall for the 8/21/18 (11am-12pm) date and submitted a request for the 'programs & meetings slack channel/app. She is working on messaging to send out to liaisons, aiming for a 8/1/18 send date.
  • Resources for Learning About Scholarly Communication Skill Areas document
    • We briefly reviewed the document. It was agreed that additional content is needed, especially in the 'Access to Scholarship', 'Role of Undergraduates,' and 'Research Support' sections. We should keep alert of upcoming opportunities to include as well as any prior, recorded webinars that were of good quality.
    • KD heard back from the Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) regarding partnering for the Open Access Week/Canvas workshop: CAT is happy to assist and one of the Senior Instructional Technology Specialists, Ariel Siegelman, will be working with us. Still need to confirm date and location.
  • Email message to liaison librarians
    • We reviewed the 'Email to Liaison Librarians About Getting Involved' document. It was agreed that brief descriptions of each event/workshop (e.g. 1-2 sentences) should be included so that liaisons have a better understanding of purpose and role. See 'Back to School Textbook Affordability Table' sample description.
    • RA inquired whether the events/workshops have been posted to relevant calendars. KD noted that the 'Research Impact' workshops have.
  • IR Policies and Procedures document (user community section)
    • We reviewed the user community section within the 'IR Policies and Procedures' brainstorming document, focusing on the Temple Law community; Temple alumni; independent, but affiliated groups; and, Temple librarians.  It was agreed we should reach out to more people outside of the institution to inquire about best practices.
  • Update from RAL/KD about LRS meeting (scholarly communications skill survey and goals)
    • RAL and KD shared the results of the survey plus general next steps for learning/participation opportunities to LRS at the 7/20/18 unit meeting. There were no questions.

Action items

  • Continue adding items to the 'Resources for Learning About Scholarly Communication Skill Areas' document, especially the 'Access to Scholarship', 'Role of Undergraduates,' and 'Research Support' sections.
  • Continue working on designated sections of the Investment in Open report. Draft due date is 8/10/18.
