Financial resources for the strategic steering teams

  • Exact details still be worked out
  • Goal is to use funds strategically more so than operationally.
  • Some questions about how resource allocation works for our team which is quite different than teams linked to departments that already have a budget (Collection Development and Communications)
  • Possible ideas for our team:
    • Student worker
    • Additional professional development funds for team members
    • Resources for events: food, marketing, raffle prizes, etc.
    • Develop an official marketing campaign to broaden awareness of the Libraries’ services beyond traditional roles
    • Budget for additional mini grants to support open access and other schol comm initiatives (similar to $200 awards for faculty attending the open textbook workshops)
  • Action Item: Continue thinking about this and let AJ know if we have any other ideas funding needs for our team.

Pod Save the Academy Program Recap

  • Consensus that it was a great event!
  • KD will write up a blog post with some of the key takeaways and post it in April
  • John Pyle is working on the editing the event recording to make it more like a podcast. Will share it with the blog post when both are ready.
  • Maybe explore academics and non-traditional publishing venues more in a future program

Open Education Week Recap: Building on Textbook Affordability program for staff

  • Interesting content and good turnout for Urooj and Adam’s presentation. They will share slides once they're further along in analyzing the interview transcripts.
  • Discussed ways that liaisons could be more involved in the textbook affordability program
  • Possibly invite Urooj, Adam, and Steven to one of our meetings after their conference presentation in the Netherlands.
    • Focus on affordable content (library-licensed material) versus open educational resources

Scholarly Communication Skill Areas for Liaison Librarians

  • Discussed structure and purpose of the document and strategy for working with the LRS unit heads on establishing core competencies for liaison librarians.
  • Action Item: By next week (3/19/18), everyone should brainstorm and add subtopics, learning outcomes, and more specific details to the main themes.
  • Will share finished document with LRS unit heads in advance of a meeting with them to discuss plans for building scholarly communication knowledge among liaisons.
