1. Recap of unit heads meeting/discuss next steps re: scholcomm education for liaison librarians

  • Following a discussion of last week’s meeting, we decided not to develop a quiz or other more detailed assessment tool to measure liaison librarians’ scholarly communication skills.
  • Instead, we will add actionable ways to demonstrate competencies to the skill area section of the existing Scholarly Communication Skill Areas for Liaison Librarians document.
  • This is just one of many goals we are working on as a team, and we do not want to spend too much time focused on this issue alone.
  • New plan for working with LRS unit heads on scholarly communication skills development for liaisons:
    1. We will update the skills document with actionable items related to each of the scholarly communication skill areas identified
    2. Unit heads will meet with each liaison and discuss this document and decide on 1 of 2 areas for the liaison to focus on over the next fiscal year, including building of competency in this area as a PDP goal
    3. Unit heads will send our team information anonymized information about the skill areas their staff will be working on over the next year.
    4. Our team will provide all liaisons with resources to help them achieve those goals on their PDP
  • Action Items:
AJ will share the documents the OTWG created on how to be more open in your research and teaching
KD will share rubrics for assessing scholarly communication skills from other libraries
We will all work on adding actionable items to the skill areas document prior to our next meeting on May 7.
At our next meeting, we will draft an email as a group to the LRS unit heads to lay out this plan

2. 2018-2019 Outreach/Events

AJ shared a document with 2018-2019 events:

  • Includes some things we have done in the past and some potential new things
  • Think about other events and opportunities.
  • Maybe a Philly-wide Open Access week.
  • Celebrating public domain - new items that will enter public domain in January - maybe partner with SCRC or PA Digital
  • Think about a publishing as pedagogy workshop - maybe partner with CAT
  • Plan is to get all events on the calendar with finalized dates this summer
