Notes

Groupings and side-navigation

  • some items will be in multiple places, i.e. SCRC

    • how do we determine which side nav is displayed when an entity exists us in multiple groupings?

    • Would it be best to just put things in one grouping? - it would be easiest, but this may put unneccesary constraints

    • Do we know how many instances of duplicated entities that we have?

    • The multiple groups for SCRC and Blockson did not come from user testing, but instead from the confusion about what they are.

    • The multiple groups for borrowing laptops came from user testing and some of the confusion

  • alternate: for the items that were the result of user research, we could put a direct link to that item on the homepage

  • If something is in two groupings, we can list both groupings on the same page in an accordion or something

  • If something is in two groupings, that are part of two sub-navigation pages, how do we handle the highlighted navigation at the top

Search results - integrating website results

  • Jackie met with Emily to talk about this

  • Emily requested a wireframe by end of next week prior to start of next week when the next dev sprint

  • Don’t need to do user testing for the search results right now

    • Instead look at other schools

  • Include a “best bet” at the top of the search results for things like specific library staff or hours searched

Individual content entity display pages

  • Can we use the building or space page to represent the unique location landing pages?

  • Start with People, services, groups, policies, finding aids, events, exhibits, collections

Responsive

  • should this be done as part of design?

  • we could use something like Sketch

  • What are our options for responsive view within Rails vs. Blacklight?

    • Cynthia can talk with Chris

Design

  • important component is to finalize the structure of the site

  • At some point soon, it would be good to have the high-fidelity prototypes for user testing - people don’t know quite how to handle the wireframes

Action items

Decisions

  1. Side Nav: If something is in multiple groups, both groups appear on the side nav for that entity
  2. Breadcrumbs: get rid of altogether
