2020-01-07 Kiosk Management Meeting notes

Date

Jan 7, 2020

Participants

  • @Cynthia Schwarz (Unlicensed)

  • Kathy Lehman (Library)

  • Chin Kim (Library)

  • Gene Mayro (ITS)

  • Sandip Patel (ITS)

  • David L. (Library)

Goals

  • Adding new software? - one request came from a student to add engineering software "Workbench modeling software"

  • Deep Freeze wipe when closed - several people complained that the previous person's information was still on the laptop when they opened it.

  • Rotating laptops/batteries out of 24/7 space before 2am so there is sufficient room to return during 2am-7am.

  • Map of locations of all kiosks across campus.

Discussion topics

Notes

Notes

  • Backup for immediate support - generally people say they returned an item, but it didn’t register

    • Right now it’s a very labor intensive process, so it’s just Gene and Sandip

  • Abey is working on a public interface for availability of items in each kiosk across campus

  • Set up a shared slack channel for Ron and Alyssia and overnight library student workers

  • Set up a regular cleaning cycle - discuss with LTS

  • Requests for new software should come from the departments, not from individual users

  • iBook - Steven should submit a request for this.

  • Deep Freeze issue was fixed over Thanksgiving - if we see any more issues, we should report them immediately.

  • Work with Rachel on creating a map of kiosks across campus

  • Gene & Sandip are working with Vendor to resolve:

    • getting alerts that batteries aren’t charging

    • power level isn’t displayed on the battery

    • getting Global Sign certs for the kiosks

    • vendor is trying to figure out how to delivery data in a feed

  • TECH Center is getting a battery

  • Engineering is getting their own kiosks

    • Won’t be tied with the other kiosks

    • But will need help getting connected to Alma
