Access Services : Key Activities and Accomplishments 

FY 19-20

  • Opening of the Charles library.

  • Loading of the ASRS and implementation of workflows.

  • Implementation of a single service point model and related workflow development.

  • A successful transition from in-person services to a virtual model. We expanded our Resource Sharing reach by joining the RapidR program, allowing us access to more materials from new partners.

  • Participate in a university wide community engagement activities that included interns from various organizations and departments at the university.


FY 18-19

  • Completed a barcoding project for the for the media collection. Prepared the DVD collection for ingestion into the ASRS and for transfer to Kardon.

  • Transferred 5,000 oversized items to Kardon. Transferred microfilm materials to Kardon. Identified 1.2 -1.3 million items to be ingested in the ASRS.

  • Packed all stacks materials into crates for moving to the Charles. Ingested 840k items in the ASRS from May - June 30th 2019.

  • Triaged several thousand items that were rejected from the ASRS and correct items locations and other Alma related issues.

  • Hosted several interns from the GearUp program as well as one intern from the Temple institute for disabilities.

  • Investigated various ways to integrate our guest PC program with other community initiatives.

  • Developed and implemented an onsite borrowing program with SHARES libraries as well as the University of Pennsylvania.

  • Created a suite of services to provide distance learning and disabled patrons with access to library resources.

  • Various members of Access Services have participated in the design and implementation process for the single service point desk in the Charles.


FY 17-18

  • Assisted in the reclassification project ongoing in the law library. The stacks units helped to shift and space plan.

  • We have centered a lot of departmental energy and workforce to projects centered around preparing the collection to be moved to the new building.

  • These include, but aren't limited to, large scale deselection projects and a concluding a massive re-barcoding project.

  • Engaged with the Academy of Adult learning to host an intern from their program to work in the department, exposing him to library work as well as helping prepare him for work outside of Temple.

  • Redesigned workflows due to the implementation of Alma as our Integrated Library System.

  • Participated in library wide initiatives surrounding the redesign of the webpage with multiple department members taking an active role in the discussion.
