Website Project Update 2/18/2019

Website UX Intensive

Over the last year and half, a lot of time and energy has been spent on discussing and developing the underlying framework and architecture of the new web environment. This is important work since this web project represents a complete shift in how we think about how we represent ourselves on the World Wide Web. This is also why it is so important to create a web presence that is based on established user experience principles and refined with feedback from actual users.

Between February 5th and March 15, @Jackie Sipes and @Rachel Cox (Unlicensed) are leading a Website UX Intensive. Their focus during this time is to wireframe and get feedback on the primary navigation and the homepage layout.

“But we already have a homepage layout” you might say. And yes, as part of the original mock-up from last summer, we do have a homepage. However, as we moved through the design of other pages and began adding content, we realized that the homepage and navigation need some serious tweaking.

In the last week and a half, Jackie and Rachel, with input from @Nancy Turner , did a card-sorting exercise with some library staff to brainstorm organization of content for the navigation. They then tested two different versions of the navigation with users last Wednesday.
