Website Redesign Update 11/17/17

User Survey: Throughout the month of November, we are asking users what is important to them on the website. The survey has five questions and has been emailed, linked to from the website, filled out in paper and popped-up on the public computers when patrons login. So far, we have received over 400 responses. The survey runs through the end of November.

Drupal Website Inventory and Evaluation: The first step in any major website redesign project is to inventory the current site and evaluate the content. I have systematically gone through every page of our Drupal website (does not include WordPress blogs or LibGuides) to review the content on the page. Right now, I want to simply know every page that exists (this is harder than it sounds) and then I want to evaluate the following things: 1) where does the page link, 2) what links to the page, 3) is the content still relevant, among other things. The next step is to begin assigning ownership of the page content to individuals or departments throughout the website so that the content can be deleted, updated or new content can be created in preparation for the new site.

Discussion Group Meeting: It's been a little while since we've had a discussion group meeting. Instead of an article for discussion, I would like to host a viewing of a webinar that was recently presented by LITA (Library Information Technology Association) on Linked Data. I watched this webinar last week and I think it provides an excellent explanation of some of the technical terms and concepts that we've been using with regards to the website and Blacklight projects that may or may not be familiar to you. Please stay tuned for more information.
