Identify Current WorkloadDavid
  • We should start planning our projects and communicating what we're doing to each other when we get together in these meetings
  • TKM Project List - includes examples where several departments are working together to make something a reality
  • We should constantly be thinking about the library's strategic goals and how they are relevant to the projects that we are doing.
  • This monthly meeting is also a place to discuss and announce new endeavors and align expertise around those endeavors.
Project UpdateCynthia

Website Design and Blacklight Development

  • The project teams are underway since the beginning of September.
  • The Blacklight Development is in their 4th sprint and moving along quite nicely.
  • The Website Design is focused right now on content review and will be doing a user survey at the end of this month to gather feedback on what is most important on the website - i.e. what do we need to make sure to keep in terms of content as we move forward.

Center for the Advancement of Teaching Grants

  • The DSC is collaborating with CAT to offer grants to faculty who wish to use the makerspace technology in the classroom.
  • The DSC provides instruction support and 3D printing/3D drafting support to the courses
  • Jen Greyburn is taking the lead on this project
  • They are hoping that the grant funding and collaboration with CAT will continue for next year
  • This project is currently documented in Google Drive.

Future Proofing Civic Data

  • This project is shared between DLI and LTD and funded with a grant from the Knight Foundation
  • Current work:
    • The grant is now complete, but Joe has expressed interest in us continuing.
    • The result of the grant funded project was to create two prototypes and a white paper to inform thinking about how to preserve civic data.
    • The project used the City of Philadelphia open data website.
  • Future work:
    • Now that there's less pressure from the grant, there might be an opportunity to continue the work and maybe get others involved.
    • There is a lot of interest in dataset management and this project is closely related to that topic.
    • There is also another grant out of Pittsburgh about education and outreach surrounding the use of preserving civic data. Some individuals at Temple may have an interest in participating in that work.
  • The project is documented in Google Drive.
Ongoing Service UpdateChad/Matt

Omeka Site Creation and Maintenance

  • The DSC provides micro grants for students taking a course in digital scholarship
  • Part of that project is a tutorial on how to use Omeka and access to an Omeka installation
  • LTD sets up the Omeka sites and adds users. Some of this work is automated, but some of it is not.
  • The Omeka server requires regular maintenance and the software requires periodic updates
  • Right now, DSC/LTD has agreed to maintain Omeka sites for 3 years.
  • The first round of sites are reaching the end of that 3 year period
  • Limited documentation is available through the automated ansible scripts used to create the servers.

EZproxy Server Migration and Software Upgrade

  • EZproxy is easily the most important server that we manage in LTS
  • The software is simple to upgrade
  • The server operating system is more challening as it is outdated.
  • The recommendation is to create a new server on a newer version of the operating system and migrate EZproxy.
  • We will have to work with Computer Services to get this done and will require downtime.
  • Most likely will happen sometime over Winter Holiday Break
Other Discussion Items/UpdatesDelphine

Digitization and Metadata Practices Group (DMPG) incorporating Confluence into Documentation

  • Last week, Gabe, Michael and Delphine met with Cynthia to discuss using Confluence to overlay the documentation that is already available in Google Drive.
  • Now the DMPG has a presence in Confluence and will still continuing to work in Google Drive
  • Will gradually begin to move documentation from Google Drive to Confluence

New/Future Projects

  • In addition to this TKM Project list for current projects, can we also have a place for future projects, a sort of "Wish List"?
  • This group can then decide on how to prioritize projects on that list and how to best allocate resources.
Update on CAMS Department Head Search David
  •  Getting close to a decision - in the hands of HR right now.

Action items

  • Create a Project Wish List for when new projects are requested by library staff or come to the attention of TKM
