DSpace Updates-10/19/18
Policy, Configuration, and Metadata work
In the last several weeks two groups were formed that will guide the IR’s development going forward: the IR Services group, and the IR Services Metadata subgroup (which is chartered through the main Services group). The first is chaired by @Annie Johnson (Unlicensed), and includes @Emily Toner , @Fred Rowland (Unlicensed) , @Rachel Appel (Unlicensed) , @Noa Kaumeheiwa and @Gretchen Sneff (Unlicensed). The second is chaired by @Rachel Appel (Unlicensed), and includes @Jasmine Clark , @Matthew Ducmanas , @Leanne Finnigan (Unlicensed) , @Stefanie Ramsay (Unlicensed) and @Holly Tomren. As project manager, @Gabe Galson will serve on both groups for as long as makes sense. Each group has held an inaugural meeting, and has produced, discussed, and approved a group charge. The RIM group responsible for the library’s Symplectic Elements work will also be brought in as needed, through the IR Services group. The questions surrounding the IR’s configuration are quite complicated, but I think these two teams will be more than able to handle them!
Technical work
On the back-end front, Gabe established a workflow for bulk uploading ETDs from CONTENTdm to DSpace using this ‘Simple Archive Format Bundler’ tool. @Chin U. Kim successfully troubleshoot an issue with this process, allowing us to check this off our list. This means that the last major technical process that must be implemented is the ProQuest->DSpace ETD ingest process. After this work is complete, go-live can happen as soon as the IR Services and IR Services Metadata groups have settled on a set of policies, a system configuration, a metadata system, and a workflow.
