DSpace Updates- 6/15/2018

Project overview:

Between June and October 2018 the Library will undertake a phased implementation of DSpace, an open source institutional repository (IR) system that will be used to house Temple-related scholarly output.  Take a look, for reference, at some DSpace-based repositories serving Harvard, Lincoln University, and the University of Michigan.  Temple’s DSpace will be linked to the University’s Symplectic Elements instance, allowing faculty to deposit their publications into the IR via Elements.  DSpace will also house Temple’s electronic theses and dissertations, currently displayed through CONTENTdm.

Major updates from 6/8/18 to 6/15/18:

  • Cynthia Schwarz drafted a DSpace Project Charter defining this project’s timeline, milestones, and participants.  Gabe Galson will serve as lead project manager, under Cynthia Schwarz’s guidance.

  • Jim Bongiovanni successfully installed DSpace on an LTD server, granting access to Gabe Galson.

  • Gabe began his investigation of the DSpace-Elements and DSpace-Proquest linkages, consulting briefly with Rachel Appel about the former and Holly Tomren about the latter.

  • Cynthia Schwarz, Annie Johnson, and Gabe Galson met and sketched out an implementation roadmap.  Other project stakeholders will be brought into this conversation in stages.
