DSpace Updates- 7/10/2018

Overview: The period since the last DSpace blog post was spent defining the scope of the DSpace project, and paving the way for the technical implementation of the connection between Elements and DSpace.  As it stands now, the plan is to implement DSpace in two phases.

Phase I: The connection between Elements and DSpace will be established, the metadata mappings between the two systems will be defined, and the DSpace system will be populated with articles currently indexed in Elements.  During this phase the system will not have a front end, and will not be searchable by users.

Phase II: A front end will be created for DSpace and, a discovery layer will be implemented.

Major Events:

7/2/18-7/6/18: Gabe worked closely with Chin Kim as he configured DSpace in preparation for the Elements connection.  At this point the REST, OAI-PMH, and SWORD2 endpoints are all installed, enabled, and functioning as they should.

6/28/18: David Lacy, Annie Johnson, Cynthia Schwarz, and Gabe Galson met to discuss DSpace scope, timeline and deliverables.

6/22/18: Cynthia and Gabe met with several Symplectic Elements staffers to learn about Elements’ Repository Tools 2, the system that will allow us to bridge the gap between Elements and DSpace.

6/21/18: Annie Johnson and Gabe Galson met to discuss DSpace deliverables, features, and timelines.

6/21/18: Jim Bongiovanni, Chin Kim, Cynthia Schwarz, and Gabe Galson met to discuss technical considerations relating to the DSpace-Elements connection
