Discovery Updates 10/17/2017

Primo

On 10/3, a "Tech Bit" email about the Library Search was sent out by Computer Services to the university. The content of that email can also be found on the "What's Your Suggestion?" blog. 

Below is a list of major Primo updates and ongoing issues that we are aware of and working on.

Major updates from 9/23 to 10/16

• Remapped certain manuscript records to display as "Archival Material" rather than "Book" (based on MARC leader code, pos. 6 type=t) 
• Update to allow for additional serial types in Journal Finder search, in order to add previously excluded records

Known issues/questions that we are in the process of reviewing 

• Issues with indexing of Alma records in Primo (records disappearing and then reappearing): Emily and Cynthia are currently discussing this with Ex Libris. 
• Issues with title-level results for serials, especially newspapers and magazines (ex. New York Times, Newsweek)
• Title-level results for databases: Erin is in the process of reviewing this. 
• Suppressed records in Alma/Primo: We're currently discussing whether or not we want to adjust which records are suppressed (ex. missing items).

Blacklight

The Blacklight project finished a 2-week sprint on 10/6, looking at the essential components of search functionality in Blacklight, including basic search, advanced search, and the underlying structure for search relevancy. In the upcoming weeks, additional work will be done to create test queries for relevancy rankings with the Strategic Partners group.
