User Experience and the Website Project
User Survey - fall 2017 - with over 400 respondents, we gathered useful insight into why patrons come to our website and what is important to them. This has informed much of what we’ve chosen to highlight on the front page of the website.
Click Tracking - fall 2017 - as we began this project, we tracked users behavior on our current website for the beginning part of the fall 2017 semester. This was also informative in terms of how we thought about the design for the website and content that was highlighted.
Library staff workshop on the entity model and relationships - winter 2018 - we held a workshop to demonstrate to library staff how the website entity relationship model will work and solicit feedback on this structure and approach to the website structure.
Mini homepage stakeholder meetings - fall 2018 - I met with individual stakeholders for each of the groups that will have a “mini homepage” or landing page that connects users to specific content to gather feedback about what they want on these pages.
Service categorization card sorting - winter 2019 - the user experience team organized a two-part card sorting exercise with patrons to inform how services are organized and categorized.
Library stakeholder discussions on specific pages - winter 2019 - the web content strategy group has begun meeting with specific stakeholders to gather feedback on specific pages on the website. The first of these meetings centered on the “Contact us” page. These meetings will be happening frequently over the next two months as the content strategy groups works on service/space/group/policy descriptions.
Targeted user testing - winter 2019 - the user experience team in collaboration with the website design core team is identifying specific features of the website to test with users. First on the list are 1) placement of the search box on secondary pages, 2) placement of the Ask-a-Librarian chat box and ease of contacting a librarian.
Website UX Intensive - In February and March of 2019, Rachel Cox and Jackie Sipes spent an increased amount of time assessing the user experience of the navigation and some primary and secondary aggregation pages for the site. More about their work can be found on their Confluence page.
