FY19-20 Goals

Our goals for this fiscal year can be mapped to each of our Vision areas listed in our charge. Please see the goals below, along with which area they map to.

  1. Establish LSSSST as an effective cross-departmental team, making our work transparent by documenting and sharing our progress, and laying a foundation for future members. (VA1)

  2. Compile shared teaching or educational competencies, along with best practices for writing competencies / learning outcomes. (VA1)

  3. Perform research on time management strategies for library instructors, including exploring the literature and finding opportunities to learn more about how staff are using their work time. (VA2)

  4. Explore strategies to improve First Year Writing instruction program, with particular attention to addressing workload concerns. (VA2)

  5. Curate an online repository of teaching artifacts (slide decks, worksheets, lesson plans, etc.) for staff to share/reuse. (VA3)

  6. Implement a system for librarians to request help/feedback from LSSSST team. Consider having LSSSST team members hold regularly scheduled office hours to meet with librarians. (VA3)

  7. Write standard statement on the Libraries to be included in course syllabi, both a short version and a longer version. Place these statements in an online area accessible to all. Create a plan/way for librarians to share these statements with their liaison faculty. (VA3)

  8. Deploy a recurring series for library staff to gather and discuss teaching and learning topics in coordination with the Continuing Education Committee. (VA3)

  9. Write standardized language describing library instructional support that staff can use and adapt for marketing emails. (VA3)

  10. Create peer observation / feedback program for library instructors. (VA3)

  11. Create a template for library instructors to use as they complete annual reporting. The template may have areas to capture research done in preparation for instruction/consultation, number of consultations on assignment design, follow-up with faculty and students, level of outreach to faculty, number of classes taught within and out of liaison responsibilities, etc. Explore data collection that supplements counting by focusing on effectiveness, depth, and/or innovation. (VA4)

  12. Gather existing assessment instruments in order to implement a standard post-instruction survey that librarians can use or adapt to assess student learning. (VA4)

  13. Identify campus groups to build stronger instructional partnerships with (e.g., CAT, Wellness Resource Center, GenEd Program). (VA5)
