Web Content ReviewCynthia

Activities throughout the month of January

  • Strategic partners group went through 4k individual website pages; WordPress blog posts, LibGuides, Drupal pages
    • Assigned content types
  • We've been organizing these pagesĀ
  • I've distilled the list of pages and created different tabs for each content type.
    • For example, I went through everything that was listed as a service or a building or a space

Building the new website from the lists of entities

Look at a service and say that a service happens in a place, happens in a building and is related to specific people or groups of people and so that's how all of these different entities will fit together. The metadata component will be the glue that holds everything together.

Review of last week's all-staff event

  • Primary goal was to educate broader staff to the complexity of this overall project.
  • One of the exercises was to start to write a description of each content type
    • If we're going to build a metadata profile, what do we need to include about each content type
    • The activity was done on paper, but I transcribed into a spreadsheet
  • Next step: take the list of entities and describe them using the metadata profiles and then enter this all into a system where we can query what we've described.
  • Once we've described all of the entities, we can go back and fill in the gaps
  • For most of our content on the website, we are going to start over in describing all of the entities.
    • We can borrow from what already exists, but we're not going to start with what's there and revise it, we're going to completely start over.
GovernanceCynthia

Designate someone to do the initial content creation. Can be yourself (member of advisory group) or someone that you designate.

Action items

  • Cynthia Schwarz (Unlicensed) will draft a document that will define the different roles involved in website governance
  • Advisory group members will think of people in their units who will fill each of these roles.
  • No labels
