Based on our charge, the team will work toward the following objectives in 20182019-2020:
Facilitation
- Create Maintain an inventory of for existing scholarly communication-related services and activities across the Libraries and the university; analyze and share results among vested parties. (Annie)
- Work with the Website Presence Redesign teams and the Communications Strategic Steering Team and other groups on campus to increase the visibility of scholarly communication resources and services offered by the Libraries, both on the library website and through social media. (Emily)
Coordination
- Coordinate Work with the Research Data Services Strategic Steering Team (RDSST), Library Technology Development, Digital Library Initiatives, the Research Information Management Library Team, and other relevant groups to ensure the successful soft launchof the institutional repository by defining functional requirements and user needs, including potential workflows and policies. (Rachel)
- Coordinate with Learning and Research Services (LRS) unit heads to systematically incorporate scholarly communication work into liaison librarian activities. (Rebecca)
Education
- Identify learning outcomes to help librarians incorporate scholarly communication skills into instruction and develop a rubric to assess them. (Stephanie)
- Prepare materials for library liaisons and administrators about scholarly communication topics to aid in discussions, reduce gaps in knowledge, ensure consistency across messaging, and reflect our goals. (Kristina, TUScholarShare
- Explore opportunities to collaborate with the Scholars Studio, such as:
- Supporting the Scholars Studio’s public programming
- Working with the Scholars Studio and other departments to educate faculty and students about open source software and its principles
- Discussing and outlining options for future collaborations (ex. new modes of publishing and promotion/tenure)
- Continue providing support and guidance to liaison librarians as they further cultivate their scholarly communication competencies
- Plan and coordinate a fall workshop for liaisons about open pedagogy (October 31)
- Plan and coordinate a spring workshop for liaisons about how to talk to deans of research and other constituents within their disciplinary areas about scholarly communication services offered by the Libraries
- Explore opportunities to collaborate with the Diversity & Inclusion Committee around topics such as:
- Digital safety and allyship for open researchers
- Accessibility for digital publishing
Education
- Successfully launch the new SCSST open education subgroup
- Share any/all scholarly communication related materials we create with liaisons for them to use and to encourage ongoing discussion
- Plan and implement OpenCon Philly 2019 (November 1, 2019)
- Plan and coordinate workshops and/or other outreach focused around relevant local, regional, and/or national scholarly communication events, including, but not limited to, Open Access Week, Open Education Week, and Fair Use Week; assess the impact of these events. (Annie)

Strategic planning
- Work with the Collections Strategic Steering Team (CSST) and other stakeholders to investigate the following long-term, strategic questions:
- What are our larger goals around open access as a library?
- What are our institutional values related to open access?
- Should we develop a multi-year plan for the organization?
- What other actions can we take to further open access?
- Work with CSST to assess current and new open access collections
- Research emerging trends in scholarly communication for academic libraries, documenting our findings and identifying current gaps at Temple University.
