Reintroduced all request functionality (which is coordinated with Alma fulfillment unit updates) and added a redesigned button/form labelled “How to Get This.” This new design will emphasize a wider range of fulfillment options beyond just “Request,” including more context about self-service options and the incorporation of the “Get Help Finding a Digital Copy” option

On August 3rd, we will be making some major changes to Library Search, including:
A significant update to articles, with a change in the article index from the Primo Central Index to the Central Discovery Index (CDI). Information about this change was emailed to all staff earlier this month. You can read the original announcement on Confluence.
The removal of the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service links from applicable records in Library Search. Links to HathiTrust will remain for public domain items only.
The reintroduction of request functionality and a redesigned button/form labelled “How to Get This.” This new design will emphasize a wider range of fulfillment options beyond just “Request,” including more context about self-service options and the incorporation of the “Get Help Finding a Digital Copy” option (see the screenshot below for an example).
Earlier this week, we updated the Bookmarks page to notify users about phasing out the bookmarks feature for articles. We also updated the note included with HathiTrust links to notify patrons of the expiration date for temporary access.
In addition to these time-sensitive changes, we continue to make progress on long-term goals and enhancements for Library Search. In the spring, shortly before the campus shutdown, a cross-functional team completed a “design sprint” focused on user experience for browse. You can now see the full report of this work on Confluence. While initially delayed by the COVID-19 emergency response, the Library Search team is now in progress on many of the short-term goals identified in the report. We’ve also begun the design process for a recommender service of suggested library content, one of the long-term goals in the report.
Many thanks to those who have been involved in this various ongoing work, including the core Library Search team, everyone in Library Technology Development, the Discovery Oversight group, the Charles Experience Assessment team and subgroup, the Browse prototyping team, and many more! Please feel free to reach out to me and Cynthia Schwarz if you have any questions or concerns.
