The IR Services Group is charged with planning for and helping to implement the Libraries’ new DSpace repository and associated services. The team will focus on the following areas:

Content/Structure

  • Decide what content will be included and what won’t
  • Taking into account technological constraints, decide how content will be organized within the repository

Metadata

  • Create metadata schemas and crosswalks that work for both traditional scholarly outputs and data

Functionality

  • Decide on repository workflow for staff
  • Decide on repository workflow for faculty/students who want to submit to the repository
  • Create plan for ensuring accessibility of content
  • Create preservation plan
  • Decide on front-end user interface and discovery

Service Planning

  • Staffing
  • Role identification (who is accountable for what)
  • Policies and Terms of Use
  • Outreach/Communication
    • Role of liaisons in promoting IR
    • Staff training

We will establish subgroups as needed to oversee different aspects of this work, such as a subgroup focused on metadata. We will also work in the collaboration with the Research Information Management (RIM) group to address any issues related to Symplectic Elements. As the project evolves, this charge may need to be adjusted to respond to changing needs.
