Developing programs, services, and resources to enhance intellectual productivity, scholarly infrastructure, new modes of research, and clinical care services.

The libraries will support a diverse environment for the exploration of new modes of scholarship, engaging all fields of academic endeavor as a multi-disciplinary contact zone and intellectual workshop, connecting students, clinicians and scholars with collections, tools, librarians, and technical experts.

Access & Media Services

Development and fine tuning of document delivery and home delivery of items to Distance Learners.

Acquisitions & Collection Development

Fully integrate HSL materials invoice payment and budget tracking into Alma.

Continue to provide input into the e-resource delivery aspects of the next phases of the Library Search implementation.

Finalize planning and complete the transition away from the Elsevier and Taylor & Francis journal "big deal" packages.

Finalize the new collection development policy.

Explore options for increasing the proportion of materials being provided via approval plans, and un-mediated or mediated DDA programs.

Make substantive progress on plans for TUL's involvement in shared print cooperatives.

Provide more accessibility to collections through finding aids, digitization and continued work on collection inventory.

Continue to support students, faculty and community through one on one research consultations.

Provide research assistance to high school students participating in National History Day.

Continue original and complex copy cataloging of resources as well as to continue to create original bibliographic records.

Health Sciences Libraries

Continue engagement of Podiatry librarians with faculty and students to establish deeper integration into the curriculum.

Create a series of graduate student workshops focusing on skills for scholarship.

Create best practice and guidelines document for the creation of LibGuides for the health professional schools.

Develop data services program under the leadership of the new Research and Data Services Librarian.

Learning & Research Services - Arts, Humanities & Media

Begin to define AHM's relationships with STEB and BSSE and find ways to continue to work as the larger LRS group while establishing AHM identity.

Each librarian will develop competency in supporting citation management and teaching about citation managers

OJS Upgrade - Upgrade and migrate to OJS3

Library & Technology Development - Digital Scholarship Center

Sci-fi corpus - Continue to develop a corpus of Science Fiction to be studied in a variety of means via Natural Language Processing. Explore ways to deploy the corpus to be used by external scholars.

Faculty Fellows - We are continuing on to the third year of this program and are working with 3 faculty members instead of our usual 2.

Makerspace grant projects - After a successful first year of this program we are continuing to work with CAT by accepting another 8 faculty projects for this year.

Encyclopedia project - We received $90,000 in funding from NEH to continue this project, have hired several undergraduate workers and continue what we have started on the project.

Hastac scholars - We are beginning what should be the final year of this program. We are currently accepting our fall batch of applicants before taking on this group, which will be replaced with the Cultural Analytics Graduate Certificate Program.

Develop Cultural Analytics Degree Program - The bulk of the preliminary work on this project has been completed and we are currently waiting for it to work its way through the grad school.

Host Digital Humanities Workshops

Library & Technology Development - MADS*

  • Increase availability of digital cultural heritage objects in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by continuing to onboard new digital collections and new contributors to PA Digital.
  • Increase digital literacy in Pennsylvania libraries by continuing to lead outreach efforts and provide educational content about rights management for digital collections.
  • Promote use of digital collections in K-12 education efforts by continuing to develop and share curated PA Digital Primary Source Sets, in partnership with local educators.
  • Work with PA Digital contributors to reprocess collections using our new aggregator software (Funnel Cake) in order to provide more granular metadata to the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).

Organizational Research & Strategy Alignment

Embed user experience research methods and findings into development of services at libraries, to include web site, discovery systems and physical spaces.

Outreach & Communication*

We will develop a series of programs to promote library resources and services.

Expand North Broad Press outreach in support of university-related publishing and open access and create policies and procedures.

Publish one Open Access textbook.

Research Data Services

Develop and maintain a comprehensive awareness of existing data needs and services around campus by Interviewing researchers about their data practices, needs and challenges.

Promote and support datasets generated by or used in the research process and datasets used for pedagogical purposes by creating a competitive grant program to purchase research datasets.
