Place a request on an item for a patron

Once logged in, select Physical Items from the drop-down menu in the search box. Be sure to select Physical Items and not Physical Titles.

Then select the criteria for your search and enter your search term. This list is in alphabetical order. So, if you're looking for "Title", you will need to scroll to the bottom of the list. Click the search button to continue.

On the left side of the screen, select "Ambler Campus Library" to limit to items only available at Ambler.

Look at the first item. First, notice that this item has a status of "Item in place." That means that the item is available. Second, notice the Item policy as "Normal Circulation per location". Click the Request link at the bottom of the record.

On the Create Request, select "Patron physical item request" from the drop-down menu. Click enter on your keyboard.

This will open additional fields. Next, scan the patron's ID card, enter their ID number of type the patron's name. Then select the Pickup At library. This will open the list of specific locations. Select the pickup location. Click Submit in the upper right hand corner to place the request.

You will see a confirmation at the top of the screen. 

Retrieve the item from the shelf at Ambler

At the top of the screen, ensure that the "Currently At" is set to Ambler Campus Library - Ambler Circulation Desk.

Then look under the task list and Other Requests → Pickup from shelf 

You can print an individual slip by checking the box next to the item and then selecting Print Slip. Or you can print all items by selecting Print Slip Report in the upper right corner. You can also select the three dots on the item and select Print Slip.

If you select Print Slip Report, you will be prompted to select the type, format type and User. 

The Requests Report Email with the attached Excel spreadsheet will arrive in your email inbox. 

Once you have retrieved the items from the stacks, open Alma and click on the star icon  → Fulfillment → Scan-in Items

Scan in your barcode and click Ok.


This will automatically generate a transit slip that is emailed and/or printed.

When the person at Paley Library receives the item, open Alma and click on the star icon  → Fulfillment → Scan-in Items

Scan the item barcode and select Yes next to Place directly on hold shelf and Automatically print slip. Click Ok to continue. 


You will now see the item with a status of On Hold Shelf

The following letter is sent to the patron to alert them of their item on the hold shelf.
