Confluence spaces, by default are visible to the general public, but require a logged in use in order to make changes. Confluence provides a few different ways to limit access to either an entire space or specific pages in a space.

Table of Contents

Space-Level Permissions

In your Confluence Space, navigate to the tools icon on the left side of the screen.

Select Permissions on the top level navigation

Access to a space can be set for either a group or an individual.

Defaults

By default, all TUL staff who use Confluence are part of the confluence-users group.

Limit entire space to specific individuals

If you would like only specific users to be able to view and modify (the "Add" permission) content in a space, click Edit Permission, then click Select All next to the group name.

Anonymous Users

Access to a Confluence space by individuals who are not logged in is governed by this "Anonymous Access" at the bottom of the page. To remove anonymous access, click Edit Permissions and uncheck the permissions or click Select All

Page-Level Permissions

On the space-level permissions page (above), click Restricted Pages to view which pages in your space have restrictions.

To restrict viewing or editing of a page, navigate to the individual page. You will know that an individual page has restrictions by the lock icon at the top of the page.

Click on the lock icon to view more information.

From this screen, you can modify the page-level permissions. Please note that page permissions are hereditary and are applied to any child pages of the current page.

Page Information

To view information about the page, navigate to the three dot menu in the upper right corner. Then select Page information from the drop-down menu.

This is what you should see.

Email Notifications

Every time a Confluence page is "Published", email notifications get sent to individual users or groups of users. Individuals can modify their email notification preferences by following the steps below.

In the bottom left corner, click on the hamburger menu and select Temple University Libraries. This will ensure that you are in Confluence and not Jira.
