Meeting notes

We generally like the University of Washington best practices site and it could be a good model for us

  • It's organized by the steps of creating a guide, so how do existing guides fit in to a step-by-step structure?
  • Could fold in the standards and guidelines with the steps?

We need guiding principles / scope / writing for the web section

  • Examples of writing for the web are helpful
  • Emily will talk with LTD to see how plans for the library website fit in with this
  • Nancy will talk with Joe Lucia about broader library communication strategy issues related to this
  • Defining the scope of content for the LibGuides CMS will require that we define what content belongs in Drupal and other library CMS (e.g. if a 'topic' LibGuide is outside of the scope of LibGuides, then it needs to have a home elsewhere)
  • In the absence of guidelines for our entire web presence, we can still create some LibGuides specific editorial guidelines specific to LibGuides audiences

Should we focus on standards for the first page of a LibGuide?

  • We could focus our efforts on creating consistency among content and naming on the landing page of all guides; however, guide authors do still need to be mindful of content and design on subsequent pages
  • Led to discussion of number of tabs - undecided for now

Other considerations for standards draft

  • need sections on responsive design
  • need separate requirements for course and subject guides
